Question: What type of documents are
preferred for printing if I want to do my own design/typesetting?
Answer:
The print industry works primarily in the
Macintosh environment, except Kelowna Graphic Works. Because we are primarily digital
printers and our printing is done primarily in-house, we accept files
from PC's or Mac's.
PC files, if readable, usually don't require
conversion.
Because considerable time is often spent to scan for viruses, open the
diskette, zip or CD and then to find a suitable program to open the
file(s) it has become necessary to charge for that service. For this
reason, there will be a charge to examine submitted files,
diskettes/zips/CDs for readability. This is not a conversion charge,
simply a time and service charge for checking the files. That charge may
be credited to subsequent conversion/processing charges if we can safely
and successfully open the file submitted. If unsuccessful, the charge
will be payable for time and service only. We do not guarantee we can
open every file.
The Macintosh versions of the following programs are not suitable for
direct use:
Quark Xpress 5 or earlier
Adobe Illustrator v9 or earlier
Photoshop 4 or earlier
Adobe Acrobat 4
Claris 5
Corel 8
PC files from Photoshop are useable as is. Illustrator or Corel files
from the PC environment must have all type converted to curves (vector
art) and saved as an .ai or .eps format or native Corel files. If you
have any questions please contact us.
ALL Submitted files must be accompanied by:
Separate files for all fonts used (screen and printer fonts)
Separate files for all placed photos or graphic images.
A printout from owner’s computer for checking purposes.
All type within the document must be converted to curves/outlines.
Please check with us before submitting the file to save unnecessary
costs and preparation time.
If changes are to be made to files ALSO submit the original set file.
